Companies that use Squarespace*

*there are a lot

Trying to decide between Squarespace and another platform for your website? It might be helpful to look at some other companies that use Squarespace. You can have a look at some of the Squarespace sites I have designed for small business clients, and below I have shared some examples of sites I love that are all built on Squarespace.

But before we get stuck into that list - here are some stats on the popularity of Squarespace that you may find surprising:

  • In 2026, more than 2.96 million active websites around the world are built on Squarespace according to BuiltWith.

  • If you include inactive websites, that number jumps to almost 4.8 million.

  • In the UK, 146,473 live websites currently use the platform

  • Squarespace is the most popular fully-hosted website platform solution in the UK, USA, Canada and Australia

  • Its share of the fully-hosted market is over 25%

  • Among the top 10,000 sites by traffic using a hosted solution, Squarespace is also number 1, with almost 5% share (followed by Shopify, Contentful, Medium, Duda, and then Wix)

All in all - a pretty compelling set of stats. And those numbers are only growing. But statistics are one thing; sometimes it helps to see exactly who is using Squarespace - from household names to the kind of independent businesses you might be competing with.

What types of companies use Squarespace?

Squarespace tends to attract a certain kind of business — and that's not a limitation, it's a strength. The platform has a particularly strong following in creative and service-based industries. According to platform research, the top industries using Squarespace include:

  • Business consulting and services: The largest segment, because Squarespace is ideal for service businesses that need to look credible and be found online, without the overhead of a complex CMS.

  • Design, photography, and creative services: Squarespace's visual-first approach makes it a natural home for portfolios and studios. Designers who could build anything consistently choose it, which should tell you something.

  • Health and wellness practitioners: Nutritional therapists, personal trainers, therapists, and coaches make up a significant portion of Squarespace users (my own client base reflects this perfectly.).

  • Hospitality and food: Restaurants, cafés, and food brands use Squarespace to showcase their personality and drive bookings.

  • Retail and ecommerce: Squarespace Commerce has matured significantly, and more product-based businesses are choosing it as their platform of choice.

In short: if your business relies on looking good, being found, and presenting a professional front without an IT department, you're in very good company on Squarespace.

Is Squarespace just for small businesses?

Mostly, yes, and that's the point. Research shows that around 91% of Squarespace customers have 1–10 employees. It is fundamentally a platform built for independent professionals, small businesses, and creative founders who want a powerful website without the complexity (or cost) of enterprise-level tools.

That said, larger organisations do use it too - typically for campaign microsites, internal tools, or sub-brands where simplicity and speed matter more than custom development. Names like McKinsey, the NFL, and Progressive all have Squarespace-built presences for specific projects.

But here's what that actually tells you: Squarespace is the smart choice for small businesses, not a compromise. It's not that big companies can't afford something better - it's that for certain jobs, Squarespace is the better choice.

Squarespace vs the alternatives — where it stands

When you're evaluating platforms, it helps to know where Squarespace actually sits in the market. Here's a quick overview:

Market share: Squarespace holds approximately 18% of the CMS market - behind WordPress (around 63%) but ahead of Wix. For fully-hosted, no-code platforms specifically, Squarespace is the market leader in the UK, US, Canada, and Australia.

Who uses it most: The platform skews strongly toward micro-businesses (under 10 employees), creative professionals, and service-based industries. If that describes you, you're in its sweet spot.

Why businesses choose it over alternatives: In my experience designing Squarespace sites for small businesses, the reasons are consistent - it looks better out of the box than WordPress, it's less plugin-dependent than WordPress, it's more design-flexible than Wix, and it has better native SEO tools than many people realise. The trade-off is less customisation than a fully custom-coded site - but for most independent businesses, that trade-off is well worth making.
